I believe the song is about a “first love” and how the relationship went awry. The “perfect crime” was committed against the protagonist who trusted that her lover would take care of her, throughout her life. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out and her eyes became jaded by the person that waited to show their true self (masqueraded). After you lose trust, you can never go back to believing in the fairytale that was believed about how life would go. The scene of the crime was the place where full trust was given to another person and the trust was squashed. Once trust is squashed, it is never given again. Hence, you can never go back to the scene of giving full trust to another - the scene of the perfect crime.
