I know love the default go-to, and I think most people will interpret it that way, but I don't think this song is necessarily about love, though it can be - platonic, romantic, familial, etc. I think that the lyrics are enigmatic enough that everyone will find their own meaning and take-away from the song.
However, it can also be pointless if by the end it did not resonate with you at any level, "there was never anything there in the first place" because "if you’re searching the lines for a point
well, you’ve probably missed it".
That last lines are really beautiful in its pseudo-contrarian nature. One of my favorite songs of all-time.
