I agree with many of the previous comments - an alcoholic husband who finds out his wife is cheating on him.
Over the hundreds of times I've listened to this song, I go back and forth before thinking that Harry is in fact the person the wife is cheating with, to thinking that the narrator is just accusing Harry while in a drunken stupor, but really doesn't think Harry is involved.
I don't think the narrator is poisoning Harry! I think the narrator is just happier getting and being drunk with his friend, and dreads going back home, to where things are so different since the birth of their child. So the narrator just wants to keep drinking, until they can't drink any more.....
