I heard this one quite a lot on the radio in the summers of '81-82 or so. This is about how a guy listens to his girlfriend and instead of flying from LA to San Francisco, they take a road trip. Unfortunately, almost nothing goes as planned; the car breaks down, the trip is long, but they still have a lot of fun and it's worthwhile to them.
Songs like this seem sadly missing from radio today. It's all profit, profit, profit without the fun.
I recently saw a video featuring the band talking about it. They said it was inspired by an incident in 1979 when they were touring California and their tour bus broke down in Sausalito, California when they had a gig that night in San Francisco. It was summertime and pretty warm.
