Especially the line "I guess my punishment is my salvation", this line confused me for years, until an event in my life opened my mind to its meaning. A divorce from my wife of 19 years. It was as I grieved , I began to process how the end of this partnership to my "soulmate" (my punishment) was also the end of what was also a toxic relationship that was crippling me in many ways, a perspective that was impossible to see while still in that marriage (my salvation).
