I see many things in this song, but the most powerful message to me is how so many people think they will only be happy, worthy and not lonely if they are ‘with’ someone more ‘beautiful’ than themselves. They are unhappy if they do not find that ‘beautiful’ person and don’t truly see what is right infront of them, then they, in a detatched, unemotional way, settle temporarily for the ‘lesser’ person rather than be totally alone.
