The music world has moved on. He has been released by his record company (Columbia). He has no band... "I have no home"... Jerry was hoping to get back into the 'music scene' with AIC but it didn't happen. After 1995's self-titled LP there was a long hiatus. Boggy Depot came about, then the Music Bank (Get Born Again was a riff from the Degradation Trip era) but then it all went quiet again in AIC world.......... Hence, Jerry's Degradation Trip 1999-2000.
It's important to remember that Jerry never wanted to go solo. It happened out of necessity rather than design. He's lost, alone etc. Partly, his own making too. He acknowledges his own faults (and then some!) throughout this album .

His best friend, collaborator, and musical soulmate was dead, after dragging them all down for years. He acknowledges that he was not the best friend he could have been; perhaps let his "cocaine mouth" talk smack (no pun intended) about Layne refusing to get clean, and it got back to Layne. And now Layne was gone, he had no Plan B, and his life as he knew it...

In order to fund the recording of DT, he had to sell his house, so he truly had no band "home," as well as no physical home.\r\n\r\nSuch a fantastic, brooding, brutally honest album. Its hard for me to listen to it because I get so sad for Jerry, what he had to deal with and go through. A far lesser man would have succumbed to the madness, and in fact, many times, Jerry acknowledges that he felt he was going insane.\r\n\r\nMorbidly, while Jerry had his guitar & lyrics to vent, I often wonder how Sean and Mike coped, and what they went through to get them through that horrible season (I guess Sean could "hit things" - his drums - in anger). I\'m glad they managed to move onward, but I\'m guessing Jerry will be forever broken inside. What a sad, wild life.
