But like Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately" the lyrics could be interpreted as a prayer to God. The reference to the Promised Land, the guide through the storm, the willingness to lose a worldly fortune, the uniqueness of the beloved, and the eternal duration of the love (forever and a day), are suggestive of a divine love.
