It does seem like the other person is more likely to be the junkie and the singer to be the drunk - from the lines "you're in transit, dream to dream" and "drunkenness is a handheld, Scrambling down Delancy, I come stumbling" ... but this was in Mike's full on heroin phase, so who knows? He drank a lot, too.
