So, my thought on this was that it's about being fed up with life here on Earth, and needing to get away to a bleak and desolate place, away from the influence of humankind.
And I thought it also references drug use, to check out and go to a place like this, inside your head.
And then that whole thing with thanking the president kind of threw me. So I thought maybe, instead of injections of heroin, they were referencing a lethal injection for an inmate on death row. A holiday to the moon, all expenses paid (well, paid for by citizens' taxes), with no hope of ever coming back, sounds a lot like permanently checking out, to me.
