A powerful ballad, this song talks about a woman's strength in moving on from her ex that wasn't a great romantic partner. However, this song doesnt apply to just women. It also could apply to anyone trying to move on from someone that ruined a romantic relationship for them.

When you're lost in the moment You can't see where you going I didn’t who I could trust So I put all my faith in us

Initially, she entered a relationship with a man she could trust. She must have been in another relationship where another man broke her heart. So she fully trusted this new man who could hopefully grant her the happiness she longed for. Romantic partners can seem to be the lucky ones we've been searching for prima facie.

Oh, you tore me to pieces Turned my strength into weakness I didn't want it all to fall apart So I decided just to play the part

And then, she realized that she deluded herself with him. We don't know how exactly. He must have hurt her in some way, be it physically or emotionally through cheating on her. Her knowledge of such scenario caused her to fall emotionally weak at first, hence why she declared to him, "you tore me to pieces". She didn't want to succumb to prolonged sadness. So she just "play[ed] the part" through allowing him to keep hurting her through letting him commit his mistakes.

But honestly, I do it all again Putting up with all the bullshit, he made me strong enough to do this

She's still willing to suffer from the ongoing cycle of pain and happiness through "Putting up with all the bullshit" of his mistakes. But then, she found the strength to finally end her suffering from the emotional tyranny he caused him.

It used to bother me Thought I could never leave? After all that I've been through, nothin’ left to prove No, no, no, I don't think about you

We all think there's no way out from the emotional pain from any relationship. She realized that she no longer needs to prove to him that she's resilient to the pain he causes her. She banished him from his mind.

Weighin' down on me I lost my sanity And now that we are through Nothin' left to lose No, no, no, I don’t think about you

His mistakes and the pain they cause as a result heavily weighed on her when he's on her mind. She lost her sanity when she decided to stay with him despite he persistently hurts her. She has nothing else to lose, but everything to gain. She gave herself the liberty to find another man that'll make her happy.

I feel freedom where I stand now And I feel proud from who I am now Yeah, I learned a lot along the way I love the woman that I became

She gave herself the liberty to find more happiness, perhaps from some other man. She takes pride on setting herself free from the emotional tyranny her ex made her suffer from. She "learned a lot along the way" on not only how to escape an emotional suffering but also how to know if a man is imperfect for a relationship. She ultimately became a new, stronger woman.

I was patient, but not anymore He's back in my hands And you swore I'll never do it But it's your turn to face the music

She lost his patience for him. Her ex thought that despite his intentional mistakes, she'd never leave her. When she said "it's your turn to face the music", it was time for him to suffer the grief he put her through. He may have realized that his actions were gravely wrong. Nevertheless, he was too late in doing so.

It was hard to hold on Days and nights I thought I'd never make at all Couldn't make it at all Now I stand tall Feeling like myself again, no worries at all Breathe No one can stop me from livin’ this moment for me I found my heartbeat

Clearly, she recalled the rollercoaster of pain and happiness she suffered when she was with him. But now, she stood tall without him. She could breathe a new fresh air in a world where she finds both freedom and happiness. She found her heartbeat, which means that she now listens to her heart. Doing so is useful when she finds a new man to be with, as it could determine on if the next one is the lucky one or not.

While the song does describe the freedom a woman has from her ex, I think that given the tune of the music, she may have a bleak future ahead of her. The music helps paint a picture that she may gain strength from moving on from one guy, but would then fall emotionally weak with the next guy. When she repeats the last words in some of her lines (ex. me me me me me), I get the impression that she's still in grief and perhaps crying to express it. So, although she finds freedom and happiness from her ex, she still has to find a lot of fortitude to really move on from him.
