It's quite simple to understand song meaning if you watch the official video with attention. Yes, it is about child's abuse, but not about the children - it's about adults who suffered from that experience as children. He (Til, singer - narrator) at the beginning of the video have tears that drop down his face, yet he is the villain in child's care home (in style of '50-s which leads us again to idea that he talk about adults who were children in 1950.)... Anyway, he is the villain who want to make some evil to the children, but the tears on the very beginning tells us that is also someone who is abused as a child. (evil makes more evil). The main moment is at 3:12 when children suddenly became adults, they breaking up the cage, leaving the child's care building, and burning it. Instead of the filling of the burning heart, they "burn" emotions that were torturing them through the years./ burning old building - metaphor for bad emotions and scars from the past they successfully defeated.. The point is that, if you suffered such a terrible experience, your heart is burning literary... but still you have time to save yourself and "burn that building in your mind". Demons and the black fairies is a metaphor for demons that torture abused person, year after year, from the childhood - since your adult age. Also, at the end of the video we can see Til reaping out his heart and eating it... which leaves us with two options: either the villain kill himself, (which abusers usually do at some point of life because they couldn't handle their emotions of being abused and an urge to abuse others) or another meaning: rip that burning heart out and became a new person. Personaly, I think that first option is more logic to me.
