This song is about The Gunslinger, a character in Stephen King's Dark Tower series. SPOILERS FROM THE BOOK BELOW.

In this song he is finally reaching the end, The Dark tower. By this point he is an old man, racked with pain and sorrow, and so very tired. He does begin to doubt himself:"If you finally failed the test, What would it mean?" Though he is carried by the voices of those he has met, and most of which has passed, their voice rise and say ""Say thank, ya" for the beams are safe my friend Long days and pleasant nights for you". This comes up often during the song to help him while he fights the tower, the crimson king, and himself. "Save me The final chord Don't let it end like this No, not like this Tell me When things were finally getting out of hand It's out of hand" When he reaches the tower, it is filled with memories of the past, the ones of which bring him the most sorrow, death of his loved ones Susanna, his mother, his old and new ka-tet.

"Entangled, I am captured You have put a spell on me The last in line The Gunslinger's line" is the crimson king "The sacrifice of innocence" All of those who died to help him get to the tower "Now blow the horn" is reference to the horn that was left behind in the books version, which was needed to end the king and he didn't have it. But at the end everything restarts to the first book, and he has kept the horn in this version of the universe of the dark tower. "Done is done Yes, there will be no taking back Every journey must come to an end" This is references to the "starting over" whenever Roland fails, at the dark tower.

So this song is the final journey of Roland, where he has the horn and can win against the crimson kin.
