It's not certainly about religion. It may be, it's up to you. It is about a person, actually, about every of us. We seek answers, we ask "why?", but when somehow we get the truth - we realize that doesn't satisfy us, because the truth is shocking, or we don't even get an answer, because it's impossible to answer some quesitons. Look at the world, the death (- for example, among many another 'evil' things) that is everywhere around us, isn't it sad? How can you smile in a world which is so depressing? So we create this "invisible darkness" which separates our view, creating an artifical reality which makes us happy, ignoring the actual reality, and we hold tight to it, because if we face the actual reality, it's going to get us with its "bloody claws" doing only harm and giving only unneeded misery. Chuck also points out the irony, that we are hugging our own lies, yet searching for truth.. But then the melody changes, at least i feel like it's not a depressing song... it gives you strenght, because even if all our beliefs, all the lies we created to hide ourselves from the reality are nothing more but lies... we still fight! We don't stop, and we try to make the illusions reality, until death, because this is the only thing keeping us alive. So we eventually don't search for the truth. We live because of our beliefs. So the truth asks us... "Why?" - why are we doing all this? Both sides don't have an answer. We - liars, and the reality - truth..Because it's not the world that doesn't make sense, it's us who don't make sense in this world. So it's beautiful that we still try, even without a purpose, and only illusions we believe in. Even though in the end nothing matters.
"you" in this song is basically the "truth" or something like a non-judgmental view. "I own no price for you" - without judgement, we are all worth the same. Nothing. "Your turn to ask why" - and this "non-judgmental view" should finally ask us: for what sake are you even trying? How can you have a desire if nothing matters?
"moment of clarity" - something like a rush of confidence about our beliefs, and being ready to keep living.
