The way I interpret this is someone being unable to let an ex love go.
She's heartbroken and in pain, going over the memories and places of her failed relationship. She had been so certain in him "always knew" and then he left her broken.
She knows that she shouldn't be going through these memories, that it will only bring her more pain, and yet she keeps thinking about it because she misses him and what they had. She is trying to find in reason in their breakup.
However she can't escape reality "no escaping the harsh light of day" and knows that she is alone. "I am the only one at the finish line."
