So this is my theory about this song. You first need to understand some History of the band.
Amy Lee and Ben Moody are the co-founders and only original members of the band. They met at age 14 and formed the band. Fast forward to them being 21 years old, major record label and world tour. Ben left the band due to his bipolar affective disorder and creative difference in the band. Amy wanted to go into a more creative artistic whereas Ben wanted to go into a more commercial rock route. It was so bad that fought and argued and tried to get the other one to leave until Ben agreed to leave.
Amy doesn't know Ben's heart anymore and doesn't really know what to say. She remembers when things changed between them. As if Ben's feelings towards her changed. Ben "erasing" the rivers she drew into his heart"
The more Amy stood still the faster Ben was running. She wanted to stick to their original vision and plans for the band and to take breaks and spend time with their loved ones the more Ben wanted to do the more commercial thing the record label had in mind spend more time on the road and immediately start with the next album.
It didn't feel great to crawl under her friend's skin they way she did during all the fights and arguments.
