I feel like this song is simply just a song but that is never the case with John Mayer... This song could possibly be John reaching out to one of his exes (Katy Perry?) and states "If I'm helpless tell me now... and I'll stop trying to figure it out" asking her if it is worth trying for anymore, or even if he simply has a chance.
