I think this is partly the obvious reaction to Paul Grey's heroin overdose, but this song is for all the people/fans who have died because of drug abuse and the people they left in their wake, who feel just as dead as their friends who are gone. "With my face on the floor (Feeling dead inside over a friends death), I can't see who knocked me out of the way (because it's a ghost not a person anymore)".

I think they used XIX in the title as a way of Mirroring, showing that people who are in a world of pain from heroin abuse who overdose and die will leave more people feeling just the same type of pain, also there is some numerology to XIX being the date of Paul's overdose, but I think there might be more meaning when tied in with AOV the 3rd track.

Last year, when I was getting clean myself off heroin, this song helped me Get Up and find motivation to keep fighting, and without question when I heard "This song is for the dead" it meant for me and everyone in my scenario, cause that's exactly how heroin makes you feel inside after a while, your real self is gone your heart has been crushed over something too painful to fix, you become convinced life is a burden no one is enjoying so you'd be better off dead anyway, and you are just waiting to die with every shot you do. Of course nothing could be further from the truth in reality, it's the drug itself that makes you believe these things, and once it's out of your system you feel a sense of importance again. Much like Paul could've gone to a detox and then had a successful metal band to play in again, which would've likely kept him happy and satisfied with life.

I'm happy Slipknot put out an album like this which shows the destructive side of being self destructive for a change, this song being like a call to arms that we're all experiencing too much loss from drugs and it's because we are hurting inside but we have to keep moving.
