A different view:
The narrator stays in the comfort of it's current state.
It's relationship, a job, a home. A safe life.
Ignores the feeling of wanting more. He stays down.
He tells himself that it's still great,but as the day passes he realizes that he didn't learn anything. He didn't grow. It stays the same.
But back in the days he knew he wanted more, as did the people he grew up with.
He is not able to love the normal life even though he tries.
