We are all “broken cisterns”, each of us carrying our own painful ‘cracks’ from our past – moments that hurt us so much we felt like we were bursting at the seams, and nomatter how much we try ‘refill’ ourselves after the experience, or ‘sing it all away’, those scars will stay with us for the rest of our lives. The memories and emotions revisit us for for as long as we live. Sometimes we hurt so bad that it feels there’s nothing good at all in this world, or at the very least, the bad outweighs the good to the point where it seems that, the act of living is nothing more than suffering itself – “blood is fire” .The buildup of painful experiences and memories can cause us to doubt, question our faith, and consider walking away from God. After all – how can a ‘good’ God be real when the world HE MADE is so broken? How can I believe he exists and loves me when he allows me to suffer like this? We may never fully comprehend why there is suffering and pain and evil in the world, but we do know one thing. Jesus has suffered too. And he continues to suffer. He suffers for you because he loves you. And it would be a ‘lie’ to walk away from Him.

In summary, I interpret the song to be about Pain and Tragedy making a room for Doubt. And how we respond to that.
