JB wrote this for his friend Lowell George of Little Feat, who'd died a couple years before (before Lawyers In Love was released, that is, in 1983)...1979 IIRC. Lowell George was a huge consumer of drugs and alcohol, a huge believer in the Rock and roll lifestyle, and above all a great songwriter and producer.
A fine tribute. WMMR in Philadelphia used to play this a lot in the mid eighties, became a fave of mine that way. Sums it all up pretty neatly.
@force263 “For a Rocker”was written for Jimmy Honeyman. He did write a song about Lowell George but it was to Lowell’s daughter, titled “of missing persons” That was released on “Boulevard”
