Seems to me about a neglected, ignored, or otherwise dysfunctional relationship with a muse. Probably directed at the people who'll talk a lot about writing narratives but never have anything to show.
The muse--the woman--is doing all the actual story creation, meanwhile "you" are caught in the imagined glory she could be bringing you, if only you'd do some actual writing.
"But you're caught in your own glory
You are believing your own stories
Writing your own headlines
Ignoring your own deadlines
But now you've gotta' write them all again."
The artist is saying all you have to do is write--
"You want her, confront her, just open your window
Unbolt it, unlock it, unfasten your latch
You want it, confront it, just open your window
All you really have to do is ask"
But if you don't, you'll only have fantasized success and regrets.

@Yudaman There's more in the song to support this, but I can't be bothered
