This song, to me, is about suicide attempt survivors. Recovering from an attempt leaves you feeling frozen in confusion. Equal parts unfulfilled, terrified to try again, and guilty for having been so selfish. You become convinced there's something fundamentally wrong with you, but damned if you could possibly figure out what.
In the end, the only thing that helps is constant contact, especially with those who've endured the same.
