I wanna preface my comments with this: I have always liked Neil to some extent. I saw him in Camden in 2002 i think it was, and the selection and way of the songs performed that night only deepened my appreciation of him. Im not positive but I think that tour was behind this album (Are You Passionate?). Maybe it was earlier, and the tour was for Silver and Gold. Live With Family and Friends was released from the tour, The Pretenders opened. Anyway...I have since come to appreciate Neil so much that he is probably the artist I listen to more than any other. That being said...
Neil has commented that other artists (Tom Waits stands out) should record more - record EVERYTHING - and Neil has a point. He has released a lot of music since the millennium's turn. He throws a lot against the wall and some of it sticks. Are You Passionate? is NOT something that "Stuck", in my mind - Let's Roll was Godawful, but this song is most representative of my HATRED for this lp lol. Neil is not a soul singer, Booker T and the MG's is not his ideal backing band. I do admire Neil's sense of adventure. But i don't like it all, or even most of it...
Maybe I will give it another shot soon. Maybe my tastes have changed. I have always like Going Home a lot, ever since AYP? came out...so theres that. but that's utterly atypical of the music on the album.
