I have a different interpretation of this song, one I know isn't backed by his own descriptions.
She becomes terminally ill rather young, and he's wrestling with her impending passing.
This is why she's vomiting. This is why she doesn't get out of bed (when he takes the kids to school and brings her breakfast in bed. This is why he WANTS to dance with her right now (doesn't say they actually DO). This why there is so much talk about death, mortality, ghosts.
And him pleading "Say You Won't Let Go" is about her not leaving him earlier than she should, due to her illness.
Don't mean to be morbid - but it's a different take that maybe gives the song an alternate feel.
@mistertl yup, this makes quite a lot of sense. You interpreted every line man. The official video kinda agrees with this. The song is in a happy tune, but the meaning is pretty deep. Sadness :(

@mistertl Totally agree & support your interpretation. My initial thoughts of the song take me back 5yrs ago to my partners tragic passing. While I don't typically read into song meanings, I find some songs are so in tune with my thoughts & feelings in the months after his passing, there def has to be a connection...hence why I'm here.
