I always thought this was about the non-existence of heaven.

Deepest beliefs from billions of souls... Aah, promises... none of them were left behind...

Particularly depressing is this part:

We send our inner fears for the ocean to score... Waiting it takes them all away from the shore...

you wait for heaven and then you die.

The ending also appears to be clear
