Behind the Song:
Ryan Clark:
“I wrote these lyrics with the intention to pitch them to another band. Even though the subject matter is perfect, truthfully I didn’t think they would be the right fit for DH. I came back to them while I was writing demos for this record and found that I loved how they sounded in this song.
I’ve always been very interested in funerals, burials, and other rituals revolving around death. I’d love to say that my faith shields me from a fear of death, but that would be a lie. I’m terrified of death. I’ve come to believe that my obsession with death, and my incessant writing of death-centered lyrics, are attempts to cope with the reality of its impending nature. I do believe death is merely a gateway into the next life, but that doesn’t stop me from hoping for a long and fruitful life."
