Thousandfold is more likely a response/reference to Liz Fraser's liner note dedication in the Cocteau Twins Milk and Kisses album: 'love and a thousandfold rose to buckley' - which came out in 96.
This song sounds like a lament to someone he's lost, not his girlfriend at the time. Like Morning a Theft, this is a love song for Fraser.
