Yes, this song is an ode to ships that have served their duty and the time has come to recycle them. It is too costly to properly do this in many countries so the end up on beaches in India, Bangladesh and such, where the laws are lax and the labour is cheap. This song touches on a reality that is mostly unknown. The ships and their majesty had served it's time and they get torn apart by people who need to support their families in extremely dangerous and unknown conditions (electrical, lead, asbestos with many other possible contaminations and physical dangers).

The way that Mark puts the lyrics to the end of a ship is relative to the loss of a loved one. The ship that carried them so far for so many years is a death marking the end of an era. I am sad to see so many lyrical typos in the post. It takes away from what this song means as it's ode to sdying ships c
