I believe this song has a few possible meanings but the main theme is that the character ruined something when he was younger due to taking things "too far".
My first thought was that he ruined his relationship with someone.
"All you said to do was slow down", this shows how someone else was involved.
"Here I am, standing all alone, because I took it too far" and "Said I'd lose you if I lost control", shows how that person is no longer with him.
There is also a lot of mention of drugs in this song as he writes about getting "high with the dead end kids".
Perhaps taking it "too far" is about taking too much of the drug: "But I was already gone".
It can also link to how he forgot parts of the night: "I woke up driving my car", "now I remember" and "Couldn't remember where I'd been that night".
There is also a lot of links to physically driving, "driving my car",
Perhaps someone died due to a car accident that the character caused (drug driving?): "slow down", "lost control" and "going way to fast".
This would fit with both of the other topics.
The line: "scream at myself when there's nobody else to fight", could be him being distraught by the guilt.
However, the driving could just be a metaphor for the other issues, it could even link to abuse or just "loosing control" of yourself.
I think the line "I don't lose, I don't win, if I'm wrong, then I'm halfway right", means no matter which outcome happens, you would be partly right if you pick both or neither. I'm not sure how this would fit with the other topics so I may be wrong with how I'm reading this.
Maybe he didn't lose by surviving the car crash, but didn't win as his friend didn't survive.
I'm no expert in song lyrics so there is probably a lot more to be read into here. Thanks for reading.
