I always thought it was interesting that this song about growing up as an awkward kid who was into music had several references to the Grateful Dead.
"And at home the radio was on... from Julie Andrews to Jerry Garcia"
"I was under my bed (playing the dead)"
But the last verse has the line "The Sound of Music passed me by... just like The Grateful Dead".
I am curious how folks interpret that line? Is it implying that some music he heard as a kid never really stuck with him (passed him by) or something different? I was not sure if the references to the Dead were meant to be complementary or not.
