To me it speaks of people choosing "little" things in life to get upset and hate over (false pride) and in the end forget what is important (at least in their mind).
At first I thought it was more focusing on gangsta life compared to trying to be a better person, but I think it touches on a lot more than just that ... discrimination, racial profiling, socio-economic status, religion etc. etc.
It is all about ensuring that your pride is justified. Acknowledge that we all have our flaws, but we need to focus on what is important to get angry over (don't let our pride ruin our actions or lead us astray).
