I think this is a man singing to the love he took for granted. He's explaining to her that he has been through hell and back since she left. He's turned heavily to alcohol, drugs, and going to the mountains to escape her memory, but it's futile. He knows only time can heal his pain. He's regreful of whatever he's done. He's now recognizing that he was at his best when he was with this love. He wrote this song and is now singing to her to let her know he gets it now. In the last verse, he's telling her he thinks she feels the same way. Maybe their time apart gave them both time to reflect and now they see what the other means to them. This verse is about surrendering to it. They need to both let their fears go, and for better or worse, they need to go all in.

I actually think he's telling her he wants to marry her, with the "for better or worse" line.

It's all so beautiful and moving. When someone can show their vulnerability, like this man does, it speaks to the soul.
