Waiting For Superman Lyrics

I would have to say that my interpretation was indeed a bit darker. When I read it I just saw a happy girl on a downward spiral. In my eyes it started off with a girl who's supposedly perfect guy left some how

"She’s watching the taxi driver, he pulls away She’s been locked up inside her apartment a hundred days She says, yeah, he’s still coming, just a little bit late He got stuck at the laundromat washing his cape”

In my eyes due to those specific lyrics I just imagine that the guy was off at war for 100 days. She hired a taxi driver to pick him up and when the taxi driver came back she was delivered the bad news, that Mr. Right was gone. She's automatically in denial telling herself "No, no, it's wrong. He missed his flight, he had to stop and get freshened up. This is a joke

It then goes on "She’s talking to angels, counting the stars Making a wish on a passing car She’s dancing with strangers, falling apart Waiting for Superman to pick her up In his arms yeah, in his arms yeah Waiting for Superman" She's talking to angels as in her lost man, and counting the stars passing time as she wishes that her lost man would come back. She's then wishing on cars saying the next one will be her hero, the super man who died at war. She keeps dancing with random people trying to forget her lost man.

It continues to this sad downward spiral verse "She’s out on the corner trying to catch a glimpse Nothing’s making sense She’s been chasing an answer A sign lost in the abyss, this Metropolis She says "Yeah, he’s still coming, just a little bit late" He got stuck at the Five and Dime saving the day” She says "If life was a movie, then it wouldn’t end like this" Left without a kiss Still, she smiles, oh the way she smiles, yeah"

She's out on the corner. In general terms being on the corner refers to prostitution. In my eyes I imagine she turned to prostitution hoping one man will be her lost man and keeps going and trying. She's confused and lost, trying to sort everything out. Yet she still believes theirs hope and she smiles making excuses for her lost man. Every now and then the truth hits her that it's not a movie, the lost to the war superman isn't coming back to sweep her off her feet and kiss her.

Oh the continuum! Let's see the next chunk of lyrics!

"To lift her up and take her anywhere Show her love and climbing through the air Save her now, before it’s too late tonight Oh like the speed of light And she smiles"

SO knowing my dark mind at this point maybe you can see where I believe this is going. The downwards spiral now takes this young once bright woman into what I believe is a world of drugs. With the lyrics "to lift her up and take her anywhere" sounds like a common reference to drugs and how they lift you up and take you amazing places. People on drugs often also feel that the drugs give them love and make them soar through the air. The lyrics "save her now before it's too late tonight" is as though she may overdose on the drugs that night. Then the quite depressing following words of "And she smiles". Before that chunk of lyrics it mentions her superman once again which I believe the position of superman has shifted from her lost man to her drugs.

Voila~ There's my terribly depressing interpretation :^)
