I've always thought this song was about an old man looking back on his life. All the mistakes he's made, the lover's and friends he's lost, the complete loneliness he feel's now he's old and it's too late to make things right.. Something about this song reminds of Hurt by Johnny Cash.. But from what I can see it's actually about Richard Ashcroft's own experiences.. But the great thing about a good song is the audience can make their own interpretation of what they believe the songs about. It's my favourite Verve song!
