I think this song is a modern day equivalent of Ecclesiastes. The narrator is searching for meaning in life, and questions God to the point of wanting to die. It is my opinion that the narrator is more than likely contemplating suicide. Whether an attempt is made or not is unclear, but the narrator comes away with a new appreciation for life, and wants to truly be the person that God would have them be.
