I believe this song is about how Christ dealt to losing his faith.
At first, it seems he was desoriented, sad, feeling empty and trying to find something to fill the empty space where God used to be in the world for him (chasing shadows).
This emptiness led to anger against religion, that he came to the conclusion that is just a fairy tale that prevents people to live their lifes to the fullest. Also, not finding any anwser to the meaning of life and all that kind of complex questions, he turned to nihilism and hedonism (we can always just fuck away our sorrows / mouth to mouth we thrive / We've got everything we need to survive).
The last part seems to be about the judgement he received from religious people (You fucking sinner!) but it never changed his mind.
I might be totally wrong, I don't know much about Chris life, but that's pretty much how I felt as an atheist as well as some other atheists that I know of.
