As I am reading all of these comments, I must write a comment of my own regarding the meaning.
From my point of view, it's about the (accidental) creation of an intelligent species.
The first part (0:00 - 0:52) is about the coming up of discovery of the general idea of creating something.
The following part with the lyrics (0:52 - I feel ashamed, ...) means the idea in theory - firstly the input (the voice is pretty basic with no intonations nor melody), secondly is the expected result (sounding more natural).
The next part (1:18 - 2:24) is viewed to me as the process of creation.
Then it is all put to test (2:24 - I feel ashamed, ...), where the problem starts - it didn't go according to plan. The message was the same, but the voice is completely different.

Well, I could go on, but if you understood the beginning, you will surely get the rest by yourselves. Then the lyrics are continuosly being enriched, either by lyrics or by the melodies - that's for sure if you compare the 4:38 part with 6:30.
