This song is about an old treasure map that Robert Brown sent to London England in the year 1858. Both Downie Creek and Baker Creek exist today in the interior of B.C. Canada.
Shortly after the discovery of the gold fields (near the current town of Golden B.C) Queen Victoria and a lawyer from Kingston held a "private" meeting. Canada was born July 1st, 1967. Sir John A. MacDonald held prime minister for 24 years and was often referred to as a drunk.
William Downie was a gold prospector whom,in my opinion, looks like the lead singers. In my opinion ;-)
