I do not know much about their relationship or what exactly happened between them. However I know they have addressed a couple of songs to each other (e.g. Nine Inch Nails' Fragile). Also, Trent has (used to have?) a dog that he brings with him everywhere.
The line "you still got that something as a man" reassures me it's about him, as their 'affair' happened a long time ago.
