Valley of the Dolls. Dolls is a slang term for the drugs: amphetamine and barbiturate.

Not only is this a obvious reference to Valley of the Dolls, but Marilyn Monroe, as well. Marina is a huge fan of hers, and honestly, a lot of the lyrics relate to her life.

"Living with identities that do not belong to me."

Marilyn was not Marilyn. She was Norma Jeane. But she had to become Marilyn Monroe in order to achieve her dream. She was Zelda Zonk, to get away from the paparazzi. Deep down, was she Norma Jean Mortenson or Norma Jean Baker? Did it matter now that Marilyn Monroe had a life of its own? When married, does she take their last name? It would kill her brand. But what does it feel like to not be able to take her husbands' last name (when it comes to Marilyn Monroe)? We don't know.

Born with a void. No father figure. A mentally sick mother who could not take care of her own child. She tried to fill the void with movies. Clark Gable - father figure / idol. Jean Harlow - idol. Abraham Lincoln - father figure.. Nothing fixed her.

The one thing that may have filled the void, having a child, kept falling apart every time she tried.

Marilyn abused dolls of both types, and overdosed on barbiturates. If it was an intentional suicide, she could feel the end "dying like a shooting star" because of her immense fame.
