A literal interpretation of the song sounds like a couple lost in the woods. The environment seems foreign to them or at least the partner that is upset and won't get out of the car. The partner is upset and scared at the singer for getting them lost in the woods but the singer doesn't care that they're lost becquwe he is just enjoying the the fresh air and moonlight. He embraces the solitude of the wilderness and wants his partner to feel what he's feeling but she won't. A more metaphoric interpretation makes me think of someone coming to terms with death. The way he says the trees sway like skeletons in the sky. It makes me almost think of someone that's committed suicide. The partner feel alone and is upset with the other for feeling like they've left them and the singer, the one that died, is trying to console them and tell them they haven't left them. I just think it's something to do with how he romanticizes the feeling of water filling your lungs and succumbing to cold, dark and silence. I really love this song and how beautiful it is. I always imagine a couple where the boyfriend has died as they walk through a forest. Him leading the way. It always makes me cry, but in a good way.
