IMO this is about losing someone -could be a mentor, a loved one especially your parents, a friend or your significant other- who's been there for you to straighten you out..
but obviously you "did the opposite"
so now that you've lost that person
you realized their worth and wanna make amends
but it's too late now cos they're dead or with someone else or just wouldn't talk to you..
I loved this song when I was a kid (basically 4 years ago, ever since I heard it in the movie called step up revolution) and now.. now that I lost someone special because I was too scared to tell him how I really feel.. well I loved it even more
