the first two verses are about non-famous "anonymous" people, perhaps intimate friends of Elton and Bernie... and the latter part of the song is reserved for the more famous ones. I think it's quite effective as opposed to listing just the obvious famous friends that died. Ryan White was quite known at the time of his death, was he not?
I like it that it includes not only people died of AIDS but all sorts of friends fallen by the wayside. The woman dead on the floor of a Hollywood arcade definitely does not sound like she died of a sickness.
