For me, this is the song that can suits well to someone who's sick and tired of his hard times due to everything surrounding him.
He's tired of all bad treatments that has given to him by every single one of his acquaintances, including 'thoughts that stop a star from shining' and 'tortured with denying' in any form of that denial. Then he feels like it's better for him to get rid of his existance from those harmful environment.
Eventually, he decided to just 'fade away' from all of those, and consider himself as an "obsolete" for those things, with hoping that those bad things won't approach him again and just forget him.
Or it is just a song written by a professional wrestler about his new character who is described by his BROKEN brother as an OBSOLETE MULE and is given just the line "I'll fade away and classify myself as OBSOLETE" for his enterance music as punished for losing a match. It eventually becomes his catchphrase.
