The writing on the wall may refer to the blood scrawled messages left at the murder scenes, hoping that they would increase tensions between the black and white communities in L.A. and ultimately lead to Manson's Helter Skelter.

Once you were a member of the Manson Family, it was almost impossible to leave. It's members would have had no contact with their respective families.

This may refer to the Bottomless Pit secret city under the desert in Death Valley that Manson spoke of to his followers where they would wait-out Helter Skelter and emerge as the new dawn for mankind.
