Could this be a bit of a critique of capital punishment?? That is a falsely convicted person is given a death sentence, and that there is no way to amend the outcome of a case after an lethal injection.
It has been known to happen that people have been convicted to only be proven "innocent" after they've been administered a lethal injection.
Otherwise I think this song is simply a person paying their dues ... although the false perception, lied to etc. lines seem to suggest it is not that straight forward.
