I take it as feeling hurt from a relationship that has broken down (fallen apart). The other party is trying to absolve themselves of any blame "Now your failure feeds your contempt ... So you bleach your shame", and put all the blame on the narrator.
The narrator however is having none of this, and is saying both of us were at fault and they are just not hiding from the fact that they were at fault also (like the target of the song).
