In 2008 prime minister Stephen Harper made an official apology to the First Nations people for the generations of native children who were stolen from their parents and placed in residential schools where they were stripped of their language and culture and faced emotional, physical and sexual abuse. It was the first time, if I recall, that the government acknowledged their part in the residential schools.
This song is a response to this.. basically a 'Cool you've apologized, but nothing has really changed, the damage has been done. People are still suffering as a direct result of the government's policies towards the First Nations people.
