Pretty obvious what this song is conveying.

The protagonist is sick of the Military Industrial Complex's power to start unnecessary conflict for the sake of earning $$$ at the tax payers expense. This is all made possible due to lobbying in the American political system. The corporations use their Media influence to poison the Americans mind set and make them fear 'Terrorism' all the while playing on their patriotism.

'We wave our flags, we swallow fear like medicine We kiss the hands of profiteers and their congressmen'

The Protagonist is sick of this and basically suggests that something needs to be done, along the lines of a armed revolution.

The Line 'And there's a there's a gun in my hand, or there might as well be' could be a reference to the old 'The pen is mightier than the sword' metonymic adage.

Don't get me wrong, this sort of thing doesn't happen necessarily just in America, the same can be applied for many regimes all over the world currently and in recent History.
